I don't think Swords! would enter into it...unless one tried to hitch a ride. Just thought this was a beautiful thing to look at on a 90 degree day.

It sure is pretty. I'd like to go down to my boat but I'm still hiding ... she pitched a fit on me last week and had to tow her home. Everyone says "it happens" but it's still embarrassing and I don't want to show my face at the marina just yet. If she blew up or sank it would be another story, but the issue was relatively minor yet the fuss was so big. Harbor Police...Coast Guard...Vessel Assist....BLEAH.
My friend told me he had motor problems with his sailboat in the Ballard Locks (behind the Lock Spot where they filmed the first After the Catch) and it was "a life-changing experience". I guess that should make me feel better, but it doesn't!

Good Lord...you didn't run out of gas, did you??? I'm joking, but I feel your pain. Marinas are like neighborhoods, and everybody knows everyone else's business. They will get over it though. Did you/ will you have to pay for emergency services?

Oh gosh no. She runs on diesel. Gasoline engines use way more fuel and if you're not careful you can blow up. The problem is she sat a few years before I bought her and with diesels you have to watch out for bacteria in the tanks that breed gunk. I just had her serviced and there was gunk in the tank. There's really no way to get rid of it except to clean the tanks. And, the tanks need to be cut into to clean them. So, in the hope that there was not too much gunk, the mechanic suggested an additive. Unfortunately gunk got thru - the fuel filter was ok, in fact after she died put a new one on "just in case"...apparently the issue was in the lines, which is kind of odd, but there's no disputing the fact that I was floating dead in the water. Kind of a downer.
I think my marina is about 33% liveaboards. It's a mixed blessing...but it was sort of funny that as the tow boat pulled into the marina the neighbor across the way greeted them as old friends. His boat had also crapped out not far from where we were and they towed him too. At this point I'll have to live with the shame, or find another marina and start NEW shame.
Oh and yes, I paid, dearly. It was probably worth it, even if a Good Samaritan had offered a tow, getting into my marina and slip is somewhat of a nightmare than entailed a bunch of people and several boat hooks.

Oh my gosh that sucks! Kind of like the embarassing time I fell off the boat before it was in the water... My father-in-law is coast guard so anytime I get a hangnail he sends the calvary "go get his princess" and I want to crawl in a hole!

Does he also pay for the hangnail repair?

OK well I was looking for a paper bag to wear over my head to the marina but now maybe not. Actually I saw a conversation on a board where some guy was complaining that greenhorn boaters need to know that riding around with your fenders out is NOT cool. Someone else responded "hey, if you took up boating to look cool, you're wasting your time." Other funny stories include the one where the guy yelled at his wife while docking, so she threw the docklines in the air and walked away leaving him to do it alone...or the guy who put his wife on the swim step to tie up as he backed in, he throttled forward a bit to walk the stern and kabam, she fell off and broke her shoulder. Not funny but...hey, it seems to me Capt Phil ran aground last year didn't he. So there. If you have a boat it's not a question of IF, but WHEN you're gonna do something dumb. My own dad did the ULTIMATE - one foot on the dock, one on the boat (which wasn't tied). Did the splits then hit the water. So much for being in the Navy.
